My friend Lijean used to own this fabulous little shop in Brisbane. She sold quirky and wonderful artisan-made things - homewares and trinkets and just lovely things to have that served no purpose other than to bring a little bit of joy. Occasionally she used to post on Instagram, a random selection of lovely things she had seen. Lijean has an artist’s eye, and even though her selection was an ad hoc collection, somehow, in the way that artists are able, they ended up being a beautifully curated array. Lijean’s collection of lovely things was always attributed to Australian artist and jewellery maker Alice Potter, who died in late 2022 but whose memory lives on in the practice of taking time to enjoy something for no other reason than because it looks pretty and brings a smile to your face.
So, in a similar vein, here are a few lovely things that I’m enjoying, not necessarily food-related or entirely visual and certainly not curated with an artist’s eye!
